The Bengals have a reputation for taking on risky players with character concerns. It has burned the franchise in the past, but it also resulted in productive players like linebacker Vontaze Burfict.
Cincinnati has somewhat of a logjam at running back now with Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard, but the team was No. 23 in the NFL in yards per carry with 4.0 yards in 2016. Both Hill and Bernard were below that mark and the most productive player was Rex Burkhead, but the New England Patriots scooped him up in free agency, leaving some yards and touches to be had.
Hill doesn’t seem worried at all that his touches will be diminished by the addition of Mixon.
It’s all well and good to compare Baker to a couple of the NFL’s most dominant undersized safeties, but the lack of ideal size is still a concern with him. Taking a safety early in the draft is far from a sure thing, as evidenced with recent first-round misses like Calvin Pryor and Matt Elam.
The risk of taking an early-round safety is one thing, but with Baker, the lack of size leaves room for concern regarding durability and tackling ability.
He’s also solid in the run game, where his above-average athleticism should make him a big time presence as a pulling guard. Lamp has a good burst off the snap and understands when to drive defenders back vs. just tying them up to create a hole. The clip below isn’t sexy — it’s just a Wholesale NFL Jerseys two yard gain — but a look as the left tackle showcases his ability to swallow up his defensive NFL Cheap Jerseys Wholesale end and take him out of the play entirely.
His skill hasn’t gone unnoticed outside the world of scouts and NFL wonks. He recently signed an endorsement deal with, who else, Lamps Plus.
